Catching a freight train out of Chicago is no way to spend Christmas Day.
But Will Gustafson has run out of options. The Depression has cost him everything—his classy wife, executive job and high society life. Now he’s heading home to the northwoods of Wisconsin to face the “I told you so’s” he deserves. On the freight train a homeless little boy attaches himself to Will like a lost puppy. Who is the boy and why is he alone?
On the day after Christmas in her Model T, Cass Newton picks up Will and the boy and takes them home with her. Is she crazy? But a new widow, she needs a handyman to help her weather the winter in her isolated cabin. She’s concealed her “delicate” condition from everyone but can’t deceive Will.
A baby is coming and Will wonders how he’ll handle this—when his lady boss refuses to see a doctor. Why not for heaven’s sake? He fights his growing attraction to this good but stubborn woman—so unlike the wife who divorced him. The three of them become an unlikely “family.” Yet what will happen when the snow melts and all their secrets are revealed?

A Night of Heart Pounding Horror
Heavy breathing or deep growls are heard from the other side of the door. We all wonder why the character in a movie or book will open the door, knowing they are about to be attacked by the vicious monster waiting for them on the other side. We brace ourselves, waiting for the inevitable blood-bath we know will come. Then when the poor victim screams, experiencing their horrible death, we hide our faces, not wanting to see for fear the image will forever haunt our dreams.
What makes us subject ourselves to such a fright? What makes us watch a movie, or read a book we know will make our nerves stand on end? Those characters we will never forget, such as Freddie Krueger and Michael Myers, who made us cringe as they slaughtered their helpless victims. Horror books and movies are an addiction for some, but everyone will delve into those stories from time to time for a brief escape into the dangerous world of HORROR.
Lisa and Linda will spend an hour chatting with Horror Author Brian Moreland, as we discover what type of person it takes to create those stories that make you turn on all the lights and lock the doors. Brian writes novels and short stories of horror and supernatural suspense. His books include Dead of Winter, Shadows in the Mist, The Girl from the Blood Coven, The Witching House, The Devil’s Woods, The Vagrants, and Darkness Rising. Brian lives in Dallas, Texas where he is diligently writing his next horror book.

In all this talk about gender equaity in the workplace, T&A tackle the deeper equality issue of approaching work and success with feminine qualities versus masculine, and how both men and women can benefit from ditching their old paradigms and finding a new way of approaching success. The girls talk with Lisa Marie Jenkins, professional coach, speaker, & author of 'WAKE UP, BEAUTY! It's Not About the Prince' on how exactly we can go about this, why it's so important and how this affects our male/female relationships.
Show Notes
Historically, men were protectors and providers; women were compassionate nurturers. Both sexes were playing very specific roles (11:40)
The 70’s moved women into the angry, bra burning stage which was necessary to get the ball rolling but that is NOT what feminism is about (11:51)
The year 1985 is a benchmark-that’s the year when women started earning 50% of all college degrees (12:12)
Today, we earn 60-65% of all degrees, Bachelors and Masters’ combined and we’ve been in the work force since the mid-80’s (12:16)
Can a woman be nice and competent in today’s workplace? (15:15)
Despite the higher numbers for advanced degrees, women only represent 4.7% of CEO’s in Fortune 500 companies and at major tech companies women only represent 20% of employees in all roles (18:30)
Where and how do women struggle the most in the workplace? (21:00)
What is ‘tentative speech’ and how does it hurt women? (21:52)

HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS AND THE CYCLE OF VIOLENCE
There's been a push for years to have doctors, nurses, and health care folks to become more involved in screening and treating victims of intimate partner violence. There have been flyers taped in bathrooms, brochures stacked in waiting rooms, and once in a while a quesion about domestic violence on an intake form. But what are we really doing, is this the appropriate response, and what can we do better?
Project Connect, a program funded by the Department of Human Serivces, has trained doctors and nurses about how to talk with patients about domestic violence and sexual assault, and that can be a tough thing to do.
Lisa James, Director of Health at Futures Without Violence, has worked with experts in medicine, violence and policy to work out an effective health care response to abuse. She is a recipient of the American Medical Association's Citation for Distinguished Service for her efforts to train health care provicers on domestic violence, and she coordinates the biennial National Conference on Health Care and Domestic Violence.
Join us as we discuss the role of health care providers in helping victims of sexual and domestic violence.

All About: Voice Acting with Special Guest Nancy Wilson, Producer/Coach
PRESS "ONE" TO GET INTO THE CUE!
What is acting really?
Nancy will talk about the fact that each and every one of us are born actors, because actors are really storytellers -and storytelling has been an integral part of the human experience since the beginning of time.
We'll be discussing:
Things you can do to make any script your own.
How you can stand out at an audition.
Creating your own breaks. Putting one foot ahead of the other every day.
What a pro in voiceover really is.
Presenting your truest self in an audition. Do you struggle with feelings that perhaps you aren't "good enough" or, don't have a "right" to call yourself an actor? We'll talk about why that's just plain nonsense.
Nancy Wilson has been a recognized voice in Los Angeles broadcasting for many years – most notably as a staff announcer at KTWV FM, 94.7 The Wave. She was a signature voice for Digital Planet (now Sirius) and the voice of Smooth Jazz for Korean Airlines. Nancy created two national programs: the award-winning environmental radio series, Big Blue Planet, now Our Blue World on iTunes, and The Larry Carlton show, on Music Choice. Currently, Nancy is a busy voice actor in Los Angeles, and is pursuing an acting career. She recently booked the role of Margaret (mom) in the SAG/AFTRA production of the old time radio series “Father Knows Best,” and is involved in casting SAG/AFTRA’s upcoming old-time radio theatre production of Gene Autry’s Christmas at Melody Ranch, at the Gene Autry Theatre in Los Angeles. Nancy is a vocal coach and producer and has trained at the renowned improv school, The Groundlings, in Hollywood.
